Fox owned TV-station FXX has announced that they have gained the access rights to all 552 episodes of The Simpsons and will be airing them in order starting on August 21st through September 1st on the station in a 24/7 marathon of America’s favourite cartoon family. More interesting however, is the announcement of Simpsons World – an app that will give users access to any past Simpsons episode at any time.
After announcing The Simpsons marathon, FXX executives went on to introduce the Simpsons World app and perhaps one of it’s greatest features – the ability to search and share for any clip you can think of. Want to share an endless series of DOH’s or your favourite Simpsons quote or joke? With the app, it won’t be a problem to find and share a specific clip from any Simpsons episode.
Users of Simpsons World will be able to also create and curate their own playlists, and the app will recommend similar episodes or clips to watch based on the user-created playlists. An optional episode guide can be viewed while watching any episode which will feature interesting facts while the episode is playing as well. As if that weren’t enough, there will also be an option to follow along in the script as the episode plays, with buttons to play or share specific lines from the episode.
Unfortunately for the rest of the world, the app will be made available only to US subscribers of FXX – yes, unfortunately you’ll have to be a subscriber to the TV channel. The Simpsons World app will be available for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Apple TV, Samsung, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in October with the search and share functionality; further options are expected to be introduced in January 2015.
