Transformers 5 Might Be Michael Bay-less

|

The opinions that fly over the Transformers movie series are rife with both praise and hatred. My good friend David Pena over at The Film Junkee calls director Michael Bay infamous and I know a good many people share that sentiment. There is a good reason why they feel this way. As Pena says in his piece, the Transformer films lack substance in favor of blowing things up. Which for me is just fine.

The only Transformers film I walked into expecting more than I got was the first Michael Bay Transformers, since then, I only go in expecting what Michael Bay does best, blow crap up (and unneeded camera shots of his leading actresses).

According to Screen Rant, Michael Bay may not be returning to direct Transformers 5 – a threat he mas made before just after Transformers 3 and broke in his return to Transformers 4. Now if this is true and Bay keeps his word, there will be many fans who are going to be elated to see this happen and then turn to hope that the next director will take the franchise in a more substantive direction.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X ...

There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make,” says Bay, who is eyeing a passion project, a documentary on elephant poaching. “I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles. I think it’s one of those classic things where somebody reported that and suddenly it became our plan. We have never discussed the idea of how to hand it off, honestly. It’s not like we don’t think, well what happens if Michael doesn’t do it, of course you do. But we want to keep Michael on this, so we’re not spending any time worrying about who could come in. We’re trying to figure out how to keep him going and keep him excited.

I actually didn’t mind the first four Transformer movies nor did I mind Michael Bay’s directing and producing style. But this might be a good time to reinvent the franchise and a good time for Bay to step aside. The Transformers have a hidden potential that Bay could never tap into and it would be refreshing to see someone else bring that potential out.
