Whatcha Gonna Do? – Martin Lawrence Confirms Bad Boys 3

|

It’s really hard to believe that Bad Boys first came to theaters during the Memorial Day season of 1995.  Over the course of the nearly two full decades, stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have had exciting and massive careers respectively and of course there’s little to no stopping the movies director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The film was a launching pad for Will Smith and arguably Martin Lawrence’s most successful film franchise.  Then came 2003’s Bad Boys II and some critics argued it was the absolute worst film of 2003 (beating out Gigli in some instances).

Despite having one of the best car chase scenes on film of the last decade, the film was a critical nuclear fallout but, in what Michael Bay has come to embody, the film made good money worldwide.  So flash forward to July and we have Martin Lawrence on social media calling out Will Smith and talking that they should make a Bad Boys 3.(see image left) Meanwhile, just last night on Conan, Lawrence was asked flat out if Bad Boys 3 was a thing and he said:

“I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close and it all looks good.”

So, there we are. Bad Boys 3 is in the works apparently. There is no studio greenlight yet nor are any other details really set in stone but for fans of the first two films, this is exciting news. Michael Bay is also unconfirmed as to his involvement but signs are pointing to letting someone else manage the film this go around as Michael Bay has become a far more expensive director to nab than back in 1995.

As mentioned before, the “Michael Bay” formula of explosions and more explosions and misogynistic views on female characters was actually one of the reasons that critics deadpanned so hard against the 2003 sequel and might be reason enough to not go with Bay on this one. The argument can be made however, that Bay delivers on what the audiences apparently wants as it still rates in the high seventies with users on RottenTomatoes.com.
