Minecraft PlayStation 4 Port Fails Certification, August Release Window Could be in Danger

The studio responsible for porting Minecraft to consoles, 4J Studios, tweeted out earlier today that the PlayStation 4 port of the extremely popular exploration and crafting game has failed it’s certification with Sony. Based on their previous tweets, an excited 4J Studios submitted Minecraft PS4 for certification on August 12th and it wasn’t until today that they notified followers the game had failed.

No word from Sony or 4J Studios what the failure was, just that somewhere between August 12th and five hours prior to this posting Sony discovered some kind of “issue” and the game failed certification.

Prior to this news, Minecraft on the PS4 was scheduled to release along with the Vita port this month but this certification failure could put that in jeopardy depending on just how big of an issue it is and how long the certification process takes. Considering they are still bug testing the Xbox One and PlayStation Vita ports, there’s no guarantee anything will be done in time to save the original release window at this point.

The Scotland-based developers also ported Minecraft to the Xbox 360 and PS3 three years ago when the Minecraft craze started to creep onto home consoles. They also ported The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to the PlayStation 3 in 2007.

Minecraft is already one of the most highly streamed games on Twitch, and the PS4 and Xbox One’s built-in streaming capabilities should increase it’s online presence even further, as impossible as that seems.

To date, Minecraft has sold nearly 54 million copies across PC, console and mobile platforms.
