Rumors are circulating that Dave Baustia, who played the metaphor-catching Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, will be taking his talents to the next James Bond film opposite Daniel Craig. The rumor, which started from a post on Latino-Review.com, asserts that sources have confirmed Bautista will be taking the role of Hinx, a Bond henchman modeled after classic henchmen such as Jaws and Oddjob.
According to a leaked casting sheet back in August, producers are looking for a physically indimidating henchmen to play the antagonist for the yet unnamed 24th James Bond film:
“Casting has begun for the main assassin, with the search specifically focussed on someone extremely physically fit and over 6′ 2″. Whoever wins the role will have several altercations with Daniel Craig’s 007 throughout the film and also a driving sequence. Former sports athletes will be under consideration along with anyone ‘very unusual’. The character has the working name of ‘Hinx’ (which may change before shooting starts) and is said to be between 30 and 45 years old… The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob – a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series,”
If all of this is true, Bond producers definitely have found the right actor for the gig. The 6’6″ 290lb Bautista is the perfect build as a throw back to the old antagonists of the past and, as he proved with his role as Drax, he is a solid actor to boot. Guardians was Bautista’s first big major acting role and he absolutely killed it and elevated the already beloved comic book character to mainstream popularity.
If we’ve learned anything from wrestlers-turned-movie stars in the past it’s that the transition can result in disaster, so Bautista’s apparent talent is not something to take for granted. Regardless if he is indeed playing Hinx or not, filming is set to begin later this year and Bond 24 is earmarked for release on November 6, 2015.
