Jason Momoa has a face one does not easily forget as fans will try to reconcile his new role as Aquaman in the upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after the indomitable performance he gave as Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones. But it was not just Momoa’s face that landed him the role as evidenced by his performance in the audition video that has resurfaced from its debut in 2012.
While the Khal did not survive the first season of Game of Thrones, it has been announced that the show will have flashback scenes for the first time ever since its inception and while no details of whom or what the flashbacks will be of, there is a possibility that Momoa’s character could be part of it. Participating in a Q&A with Spanish film students, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss explained the decision:
By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks.
The video went viral again on the heels of the official announcement that Momoa will be playing the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman in various upcoming DC films despite having denied the rumors in the previous months. Momoa had even gone to the extent to tell MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to punch him in the face if it was not true, in an interview in January.
Not only will Momoa appear in the upcoming feature Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but also the sequel, Justice League, set for release in 2017, and a stand-alone Aquaman film scheduled for a 2018 release. While DC has announced several stand-alone superhero films in conjunction with these, it is unknown if Aquaman will have any cameo’s or presence otherwise in them.
