Current GTA V Players Who Upgrade To Xbox One, PS4, Or PC Version Get Exclusive Content

Before you CTRL+F and search for it, no – heists are not coming any sooner than next spring.

Rockstar recently announced a virtual stolen boatload of exclusive content coming to the Xbox One, PS4, and PC ports of GTA V for those who also own the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions. The mix bag of goodies contains vehicles and weapons from past games, as well as brand new items such as the rail gun, a wearable monkey suit, and a brand new submarine.

As you’d expect, the rail gun comes with its own set of challenges to complete at Ammu-nation. In case you ever get bored of using the (assumed) ultra-powerful rail gun while floating around in your blimp miles above the Los Santos skyline, you can always fall back on Victor Crowley’s weapon of choice, the trusty hatchet – which is also being added to the game.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X ...

Or maybe you’d like to take the scenic route and explore the underwater beauty of Los Santos’ waters in the new Kraken Submarine? In the single player campaign, you will need to play as Franklin and document several types of wildlife scattered across the landscape for the city’s Tourist Board. Complete this fast-paced and I’m sure not-at-all-tedious challenge to unlock the slow-moving underwater vehicle and float to your heart’s content. Another single player challenge you can complete is to photograph a group of monkey silhouettes to unlock wearable monkey suits and a Go Go Monkey Blista blimp to use at your leisure.

Finally, a game that lets you roleplay as James Cameron.
Was it worth the four hours of tediously tracking down a special type of turtle? Maybe.

On top of the blimp, submarine, and returning Dodo seaplane, there are also a large group of road vehicles being added for those that own the Xbox 360/PS3 versions and are making the jump to current generation technology. A monster truck (named the “Marshall”), custom muscle cars, and the Imponte “Duke O’Death” will all be waiting for you to find them and cover them in the most hideous color combinations or chrome plating you can imagine.

Cars, military-grade weaponry, a blimp, a monkey suit, and a monster truck not enough for you? How about a million dollars? Rockstar is also giving returning players $500,000 to spend in the single player campaign, and another $500,000 to spend (or lose in dozens of surprise gunfights) within GTA Online.

So, all in all, here’s the list of exclusive content we know that upgrading players will have exclusive access to (that we have been told so far):

  • Imponte Duke O’Death vehicle
  • Dodo seaplane
  • Murder Mystery Noire-style mission
  • Rail Gun
  • Hatchet
  • Kraken Submarine
  • Stock Car Races
  • Custom Muscle Cars
  • Monkey Outfits
  • Go Go Monkey Blista blimp
  • Cheval Marshall monster truck
  • Xero Gas blimp
  • $1 million ($500,000 in single player / $500,000 in GTA Online)

Rockster also addressed some issues regarding the jump to new consoles with a quick Q&A. In it, they explained that exclusive content will only be available on new consoles, and not on the Xbox 360/PS3 versions, citing “enhanced graphics and many other gameplay updates on the new versions of Grand Theft Auto V” as the reason.

Whether or not that explanation is complete bull is up for interpretation (hint: it probably is), but either way there is no getting around the fact that if you want all this sweet new gear you’ll have to upgrade. That transition will be made easier by allowing you to transfer every bit of your saved GTA Online character over to the PS4/Xbox One/PC versions. Once that transitions is made, and it can only be made once, you will still have access to your old character on older consoles. Whatever progress you make from then on, however, will only be reflected on the console you do them on.

One of the more interesting updates will be the inclusion of 30-player online in both Free Roam and competitive modes. GTA Online was already pure insanity with the 16 allotted players on the Xbox 360/PS3 versions, so I can’t wait to see what kind of hell the city of Los Santos will become with 46% more gun-toting maniacs roaming the streets.

The Xbox One and PS4 versions of Grand Theft Auto V come out November 18th, while the PC versions is slated for a January 2015 release.
