New Better Call Saul Teaser Features Grumpy Jonathan Banks

|

A new teaser for AMC’s Better Call Saul premiered during The Walking Dead last night. In it, Jonathan Banks, reprising his role of Mark Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad, and Bob Odenkirk argue about a parking spot and some sort of missing payment. Banks was previously confirmed to be everyone’s favorite grumpy henchman, but this is our first chance to actually see him on screen in the Breaking Bad prequel series.

If laying the smack down on Odenkirk is proof enough, Banks is just as spry as ever, and shouldn’t have any problem telling the origin story of Mike Ehrmantraut during his most active years as a hired gun.

We were never explicitly told how Mike Ehrmantraut and Saul Goodman met prior to Breaking Bad, but we may have just witnessed a time close to it – or the two have known each other for some time and this was a boiling over point in their budding friendship. Either way, they clearly didn’t get off on the right foot, and fans of Breaking Bad will remember that it never gets much better.

Ehrmantraut working as some kind of security guard or parking garage attendant is interesting because we already know that he worked as a contract henchman, but it’s never established when he started working for Gustavo Fring, who is his employer when we meet him in Breaking Bad. Either way, where he is now, doesn’t seem very high on the totem pole.
