Death Grips Releases New Song With Music Video, Despite Being “Broken Up”

|

In the middle of the summer the experimental band put out a bummer of an announcement that they would be discontinuing their project/band known as Death Grips. Consisting of vocalist and rapper MC Ride, former Hella drummer Zach Hill, and producer Andy Morin, the eccentric trio put out four intense, experimental, and hard-hitting hip-hop industrial EP’s over a three year span.

“we are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. we have officially stopped. all currently scheduled live dates are canceled. our upcoming double album ‘the powers that b’ will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records. Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. above and beyond a ‘band.’ to our truest fans, please stay legend.”

Shortly after silently releasing the first half of their latest album The Powers That B, and randomly posting it on Facebook via Soundcloud (NSFW of course), the group made their disappointing announcement in regards to discontinuing the band. The first half of the album consisted of the typical style to be found from Death Grips featuring heavily distorted and sampled guest vocals from Björk. By early October, drummer Zach Hill had then announced on Facebook that the second half of The Powers That B was complete, which coincides with the fact that it will be their final released material.

Slated to be released sometime by the end of 2014, the first taste of that was again abruptly shared on Death Grips’ Facebook. Much like the first half of the EP, there was no promotion or advertising done to announce today as the release day for new material. Despite its immediate critical reception the group hasn’t doubled over their original announcement.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X ...

That tangy, metallic, weird familiar taste can be experienced in the form of the music video for their newest song “Inanimate Sensation”. It features textbook Death Grips; with distorted and bizarre 3D-animated visuals and MC Ride in focus and being goofier than usual.  The group will typically put out multiple music videos for their albums, so it remains to be seen if this is their final released video content.
