It has been revealed by TVLine that The Walking Dead spinoff will take place in Los Angeles. An anonymous sourced told TVLine that the pilot, which will begin shooting in early 2015, will take place under the bright lights of Hollywood. The Walking Dead’s primary series with Rick and company takes place, and is shot in, Atlanta but it has not been revealed if this spinoff will be filmed in LA, or just be set there.
Robert Kirkman, who is being tagged as a producer on this spinoff series that will air on AMC, previously stated that his biggest regret with The Walking Dead was revealing too much information about the world in the season one finale. In particular, he had regrets about revealing that everyone in the world is already infected, and too much information about what was going on in other parts of the world, specifically France.
“I probably would have changed that stuff. I’ve been careful in the comic series to not say what’s happening in other parts of the world. It’s something that’s going to be fun to explore in the spinoff series. But the fact that France is mentioned in that episode and other things like that, I probably would have steered away from that stuff if I had to do it all over again.”
For better or worse, The Walking Dead TV series has always been careful not to reveal too much about what caused the virus, what’s going on around the world, or how the group’s actions are impacting the world at large. This spinoff series will obviously blow the doors off all of that, as it will explore a whole new group and give us a bigger picture of the walker-filled world than ever before. Depending on just how much of an open-book Kirkman is willing to be with his beloved franchise, it could lead to a very different show.
Given that it takes place on the other side of the country, the chances of some kind of crossover between the two shows are very low unless there is a travelling montage somewhere or one of the groups manages to snag a jumbo jet and fly cross-country.
