New Avengers NOW! Trailer Shows Off The Future Of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

Earlier today Marvel unveiled a new trailer for their Avengers NOW! series of comics. This fourth wave of the Marvel NOW! series was announced by the legendary comic book company back in July, and features new faces and new #1 issues for several of the most famous Avengers.

Avengers NOW! kicked off back in October with a new Thor #1 (featuring a female character taking over for the classic hero), a new Deathlock #1, and Bucky Barnes getting his own series with Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier also debuting. Those three and the rest of the Avengers, both new and returning heroes, were featured in the 98-second trailer.

It’s likely we’re seeing not only a trailer for Avengers NOW!, but also a small glimpse into what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to look like in a decade or more when actors begin to age and contracts being to expire. Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, who play Captain America and Thor respectively, have contracts about to run out and both had their comic book equivalent characters replaced with very different personas that could handle being re-casted. Another new comic featured in the trailer, S.H.I.E.L.D., pulls all the characters straight from the ABC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl,, another series being added, also got a spot in the trailer alongside Iron Man, Captain America, and others. The adventures of Squirrel Girl and her sidekick Tippy comes from the award-winning writer behind the Adventure Time comic, Ryan North, and will feature the duo running around the Marvel universe and “squaring off against some of the baddest baddies around!” It is scheduled to release in January 2015.

None of the information in the trailer is really new for Marvel fans, but it’s still a well put together video meant to generate hype about the new series and new look of many iconic heroes. If you have friends who aren’t quite up to speed on what the heck Avengers NOW! is, this might be a good thing to show them instead of trying to explain it yourself.
