Deadpool's 250th Issue Will Be The Death Of Wade Wilson

The reckless merc with a mouth is finally going to meet his end, as the 250th issue of Deadpool (technically #45 in the current run) will officially be the death of the popular anti-hero. In an exclusive interview with The Nerdist, writer Gerry Duggan and editor Jordan White discussed the death of Deadpool and what ultimately lead to the end of the iconic character’s run as a Marvel mainstay.
In typical bad luck Deadpool fashion, his death is going to come after a generally pretty great year where everything seemed to be going right for him. Not only did Wade Wilson the character get married during his current run, but the real-life movie starring Ryan Reynolds was finally greenlit, and he was really moving forward as a mainstream anti-hero.
Obviously the biggest hurdle for killing Deadpool is that he can’t actually die, thanks to being cursed by Thanos. Despite his best efforts (including antagonizing The Hulk into mashing him to bits) Deadpool has been unable to go through with it up until this point. Duggan and White acknowledged this hurdle and promise that his death will “blow your mind” when it hits in Deadpool #45.
This final over-sized final issue of Deadpool will be stuffed with a meaty main story of course, but it will also have several side stories including an Infinity Gauntlet crossover, as well as a few other stories featuring guest writers. The Nerdist also got their hands on the official solicit, which can be seen below.

FINAL ISSUE!
That’s right—if you add together all the Deadpool series (creatively) issue 45 is the big 250th issue of Deadpool! What better way to celebrate than to end the series? In our over-sized main story, ULTIMATUM comes at Deadpool for revenge, so he has no choice but to take them on—ALL OF THEM. Then, in an Infinity Gauntlet crossover, what would Deadpool do if he got the six gems from Thanos? Plus: a slew of stories showcasing Deadpool’s closest friends and allies by special guest writers! Also, SPOILER: Deadpool dies at the end of the issue.

While this current run of Deadpool “NOW”, written primarily by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, is criticized for turning Deadpool into even more of an idiot and less of a general psychopath, it has done a pretty good job delving into the psychological and emotional side of Deadpool. Some great storylines were had during the run, including his wedding, learning of his lost daughter, and being inhabited by the spirit of a policewoman of whom he had a great chemistry with throughout. And of course there were also the numerous flashback books complete with the oldschool look of a ’70s comic mixed with current Deadpool’s flashy personality. All of which were tools that let us into the world of Deadpool in ways we hadn’t seen in the previous runs.
Deadpool-Wedding
Deadpool’s death will also mark the third recent major character with a healing factor killed off by Marvel. First it was Wolverine and Captain America, and now Wade Wilson getting the axe. While Duggan and White deflected the idea that Marvel is actively trying to get rid of healing factor-equipped characters, it certainly appears that way. And, in terms of stories and creating situations with a lot of risks, it would make sense to get rid of the characters who can just heal their way out of any problem.
