Game Of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Veep Returning To HBO In April

HBO has announced that several of its shows will be returning April 12th – Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Veep. The trio of big HBO returns was tweeted by the network’s official PR Twitter account late yesterday.

Headlining the night, of course is Game of Thrones. The show’s 10-episode fifth season kicks off at its usual time slot of 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, and already has fans everywhere speculating about what is going to happen with the characters adapted from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. It’s already deviated quite a bit from the books, and Martin has said that more changes could be coming, so it’s anyone’s guess.
Following the Game of Thrones return will be Silicon Valley debuting its second season immediately after. The Mike Judge comedy did well critically and with viewers, even if interest in the story about typical Silicon Valley start ups started to dwindled when the turns began to get more bizarre. It clearly attracted enough attention from HBO executives, however, and will also be starting a 10-episode season.
And finally, rounding out HBO’s mammoth Sunday night lineup will be Veep. Julia Louis-Dreyfus playing Vice President Selina Meyer has been one of my favorite comedies in recent memory, and made my top five TV shows of 2014 list with its fantastic third season last year. It returns this April after Silicon Valley for another 10-episode season. If you haven’t had a chance to watch Veep yet, it’s a great way to counter balance all the tears that Game of Thrones will surely be generating.
We reported last year that HBO’s on-demand service, HBO GO, would eventually become a standalone service similar to Netflix and could potentially launch before Game of Thrones returned. Well, we now have an official Game of Thrones date, but still no official word on the separation of HBO GO. Unless something changes between now and April you may just have to keep using your parents’ cable password to watch it on time.
