Harmonix recently announced on their own forums that they will be releasing new DLC for their aging instrumental rhythm game, Rock Band. This DLC will be the first in a whopping 21 months and it includes tracks from the likes of the Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold, and Arctic Monkeys.
Currently, Rock Band 3 features more than 1,400 artists and more than an estimated 3,500 tracks through the songs on the discs and the years of DLC combined. As with other DLC released for the game, the songs you purchase with this new pack will also be available within the arcade controller-based version of the game, Rock Band Blitz, which ditches the steep entry cost of needing the musical instruments to play.
Of the tracks revealed to be in this newest DLC are Artic Monkeys’ “R U Mine?”, Avenged Sevenfold’s “Shepherd of Fire,” and the popular “Something From Nothing,” from the Foo Fighters latest album, Sonic Highways. As noted in the Harmonix press release, “Something From Nothing” recently topped the Billboard Charts when it was released in October, and it was featured as part of the HBO documentary that followed the band as they created their soon-to-be-hit album.
After dominating the gaming market and Christmas lists just a few years ago, instrument rhythm games have seemingly fallen off the face of the Earth. The one that (arguably) started it all, Guitar Hero has bit the dust, and even its attempt at series of spin-offs including DJ Hero never really caught on. But if you still have your Rock Band equipment in a closet somewhere, and an Xbox 360 that hasn’t had the red ring of death yet, dust those bad boys off and be the Foo Fighter you always dreamed of when the DLC is released on January 13th.
