Simon Pegg Co-Writing Star Trek 3

|

Simon Pegg is set to co-write the next Star Trek film, coming in 2016. Ever since J.J. Abrams officially left Star Trek to work on some other small time property with “star” in the title, Paramount Pictures has been struggling to put together a crew for the next Trek film. After finally settling on a director that would stay on the project, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin, they also have assembled the writing staff. Dong Jung, who created the TNT series Dark Blue, will also join Simon Pegg in penning the script.
Pegg of course stars in the films as well, playing everyone’s favorite beam enthusiast, Scotty. This won’t be the first film he stars and co-writes, either. Along with direct Edgar Wright, he also co-wrote the fantastic Cornetto trilogy which consisted of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End and also helped on the the slightly less fantastic Run Fatboy Run. While we probably won’t see zombies or Nick Frost in Star Trek 3, the comedy quips might be just a tad bit sharper with Pegg at the helm.
Dong Jung, while you might not have heard his name, has worked on some other smaller projects with Bad Robot Productions  and another Paramount Pictures film, Diamond.
Assuming all the setbacks are far behind them, Star Trek 3 is set to release in 2016 and once again stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban.
