Secret Wars: Battleworld Will Feature "Weird" And Cross-Dimensional Fights

When Marvel’s Secret Wars: Battleworld hits this May it is going to be about one thing: fighting. According to series editor Jon Moisan, that will include the weirdest fights imaginable.
Being that two universes and timelines are smashing into one giant battleground (aptly named Battleworld), it allows the series to pit any number of characters against each other. Regardless of any given character’s origin, time period, or other factors that would normally prohibit them going at it, anyone has a chance to fight anyone.

You want to see the 1602 version of Punisher fight the 2099 version of Iron Man? Muskets versus the 1990’s version of the future! We can even have the same characters from different worlds fight. I’m sure readers have been dreaming of seeing a dozen different versions of Howard the Duck fight. Well, guess what? It’s completely possible in this series!

Moisan also addressed the very real issue of diluting all the characters and having their interactions becoming mindless fighting. When anything is possible and there are no limits to what carnage can happen, a lot of stakes can end up being lost in the shuffle.

Sure, Hulked Out Stilt-Man versus Spider-Powered Stilt-Man is a fight readers have wanted to see for years, but it won’t exactly bring them to the book.

Each issue of the four-part Battleworld anthology will include two separate stories, most of which will be fights between Marvel characters big and small. Secret Wars: Battleworld #1 in particular will be written by Josh Williamson and Ed Brission, both of whom “jumped at the chance” to be involved in the madness that will be Secret World.
The insane world that Moisan gets to create will be one based entirely on these bizarre fights and seeing what weird combinations he can put against each other. If crazy fight combinations aren’t your cup of tea and you just want to know what happens to all the respective characters when the universes collided, there’s no reason to worry. While Battleworld will be complete fighting madness, character’s individual series will explain in detail what is happening in their specific sections of the newly-forged Battleworld.
Along with all the juicy information divulged by Moisan, Marvel also released the cover art variants for Secret Wars: Battleworld #1.
When Secret Wars hits circulation in May it will effectively be the end of the primary Marvel Universe – which has been continuous for over fifty years – and the Ultimate Marvel Universe as they smash together and forge Battleworld. The first taste of Secret Wars will be available during Free Comic Day, where Marvel will be giving away Secret Wars issue #0, which gives a quick backstory on the events leading up to the incursion.
