The Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams took to Twitter late yesterday to quell rumors that she’d be the next host of the comedic nightly news show once Jon Stewart departs later this year. Ever since Stewart let slip to a live studio audience that he’d be leaving the show, Williams has been at the forefront of Daily Show fans’ mind’s as a potential host.
Rumors of Williams taking over The Daily Show also flared up thanks to a clip from the upcoming Hot Tub Time Machine 2 that jokingly makes the prediction that she’d be the host in the future. In the short scene from the movie posted by Uproxx, it shows Williams hosting The Daily Show With Jessica Williams, which she had done since 2025.
Amid an outpouring of support and hopeful fans wondering if she’d be the host, Williams went to Twitter yesterday to shut down the rumors once and for all:
Fact 1: I’m not hosting. Thank you but I am extremely under-qualified for the job!

While it’s hard to make an argument that she wouldn’t be at least a decent host, Williams herself doesn’t think she’d be up for the job at the young age of 25.
At this age (25) if something happens politically that I don’t agree with, I need to go to my room & like not come out for, like, 7 days. — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
That being said I am super not right for it, but there are quite a few people who are! Can’t wait to stick around & see what happens.

Who will actually replace John Stewart is still up in the air, but The Daily Show still has plenty of time to decide, as he is expected to finish out the year behind the desk.
