Hugh Jackman Jacks Into A Mech Suit In New Clip From Chappie

|

Chappie, that other Neill Blomkamp movie that isn’t Alienis set to release on March 6th, and we’ve got our first full clip today courtesy of Sony Pictures. The clip features Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver coming to the calm and rational decision of “burn it to ash” when deciding with how to deal with a threat that both of the characters are watching through a video feed.
It’s not explicitly said that the thing they want to “burn to ash” is the adorably lifelike Chappie, but that’s most likely the case. From previous trailers and interviews we know that Hugh Jackman’s character (Vincent Moore) is not a big fan of Chappie or artificially intelligent robots in general. He also mentions that another character brought “a droid” into the building and it was sentient, again a pretty clear hint that he’s going after Chappie. It’s hard to imagine that the same kind-hearted droid we see in the previews is the one causing such destruction, but it may be some kind of revolt for or against a new form of sentient robot.
Also worth noting is the fact that it appears Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver’s characters work for the company that manufactures the police droids that Chappie is created from. Looking at brief shots in the background we can see what looks to be a prototype or inactive droid and a “SCOUT – 100 units sold” banner above it. The fact that Hugh Jackman runs (apparently) a short distance to a fully-equipped robot ready to run out and fight hints that they also work in some kind of robotics manufacturing facility as well.

Chappie is set to release on March 6th, and stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, and Dev Patel. It is directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Blomkamp as well as his wife Terri Tatchell. Blomkamp and Tatchell also teamed up for District 9 in 2009. Tatchell was absent from Elysium, which is considered to be one of Blomkamp weakest films.
