Firefly Stars Alan Tudyk And Nathan Fillion Launching A New Comedy Series Con Man

|

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion are creating a brand new comedy series titled Con Man, which focuses on a familiar tale for the stars of the cancelled-before-its-time Firefly that aired on Fox for only one season in 2002An IndieGoGo campaign was created for the series earlier today and as of this writing it has already passed the posted $425,000 goal.

Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk-Me!) was a co-star on Spectrum, a sci-fi series which was canceled –Too Soon– yet became a cult classic. Wray’s good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores, and lots of pop culture events.  The show will feature all the weird and crazy things that happen to Wray along the way to these events.

A lot of big money fans are apparently interested in the project as some of higher reward levels sold out almost immediately. The $1,000 level, available to only 25 supporters, would have given you the chance to travel to the set of the series and be a background character for an episode, but it has already sold out.
Some of the more attainable rewards include funding $15 which gives you access to the team’s production blog, including updates from the team as the show is created. A cool $25 will net you access to the entire series on Vimeo On Demand to stream as much as you’d like 90 days before it is released to the public, as well as “funders only MP3 Commentary by Nathan and Alan for every episode.”
Their lighthearted and charismatic campaign video, seen below, features several well-known celebrities and a lot of tongue-in-cheek shots at “a network” that cancels shows before they should.

The comedy series should be available later this year, at least going off of the July delivery date for the rewards, and the number of episodes is partially based on how much the crowd-funding campaign can bring in. The initial $425,000 goal is meant to fund the first three episodes, but Tudyk says he already has 12 planned, should the funding reach that level.
