Morena Baccarin Confirms She Is Playing Copycat In Deadpool Movie

After T.J. Miller maybe sort of confirmed his role as Weasel last week, Morena Baccarin has followed up by officially announcing her role in the film via Twitter. The Gotham and Firefly star will be playing Vanessa Carlysle, aka Copycat, a shapeshifting mutant who first appeared in New Mutants #98.

It was announced last month that Baccarin would be cast in Deadpool, reportedly beating out other front-runners Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Sarah Green (Vikings), and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow) for the female lead. Until this point it wasn’t clear who exactly that lead would be.  In the Marvel comics, Copycat is a former prostitute who at one point fell in love with Deadpool. Her character has not yet appeared in a film, although she did get a nod in X2 in the form of her mutant file showing up briefly in a scene.
After teasing it earlier in the week, T.J. Miller also officially announced that he will indeed be playing Deadpool‘s pal, Weasel.

Joining Miller and Baccarin will of course be Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson himself, as well as an unknown actor playing Peter Rasputin, aka Colossus, and Gina Carano playing an still unannounced role. With the three main players of the film apparently all in Vancouver ready for filming, it would appear that production on Deadpool is well underway.
Deadpool is scheduled to be released in February 2016.
