The argument can be made that Hugh Jackman, James Marsden, and Famke Janssen kicked off this recent wave of superhero films with their massively successful X-Men and X2 films more than a decade ago. While more comic franchises have gotten attention and film adaptations of their own, the X-Men hasn’t slowed down a bit. The most recent X-Men movie, Days of Future Past, took in over $300 million domestically and the next, Apocolypse, is expected to do the same. Throughout all this success, Jackman has been at the forefront playing Wolverine. All told he’s starred in six films in the franchise, including solo films X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine. The only X-Men movie he isn’t credited for is First Class, in which he still had a memorable cameo.
All of that will likely come to an end with Wolverine 3. Nothing is yet known about the film which is not slated to come for another two years, but if they decide to go the route of Wolverine in comic book form, he won’t need to be re-cast at the very least.
There are currently rumors of Jackman appearing as Wolverine in both X-Men: Apocalypse and Deadpoolbut it is not known if he will still make uncredited cameos or save it all for the character’s sendoff in 2017.
