If one LEGO designer’s creation comes to fruition, the world could soon have that Golden Girls LEGO set it has always needed. Submitted by designer lostsleep as part of the LEGO Ideas program, the proposed set includes the show’s full cast of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, Sophia, and even Dorothy’s ex-husband Stan.
Also included with the set in its current state is the iconic foyer, living room, and kitchen built to replicate how they appeared in the popular ’80s show. Just like the show’s set itself, the rooms are all modular to allow for camera placements so you can record your own re-creations of popular moments from the show and upload them to your budding Golden Girls-dedicated YouTube channel.
The way the LEGO Ideas program works, as it did with previous success stories WALL-E and Doctor Who, is that any fan can submit their own creation where it goes up for a vote. Should the submission reach the required 10,000 votes, it will then go through a rigorous examination process by a team of specialists – the same process that any new LEGO set goes through – before the idea can come to life and eventually be sold.
The Golden Girls LEGO set has already blown past the requisite 10,000 supporters and is now awaiting its turn to go through the examination process before being considered for a full product. In theory, the biggest hurdle would be licensing issues, but LEGO has been known for years for licensing other properties to be adapted into LEGO, so that could only be a formality at this point if the other aspects of the build pass LEGO’s tests.
