Following the release of the free-to-play MMORPG Neverwinter on the Xbox One, the Dungeons & Dragons game has received an expansion with the launch of Neverwinter: Elemental Evil. While the expansion is now available on the PC version of the game, Xbox players will have to wait to see it sometime later this year.

The expansion brings a number of updates to the game, the biggest being the addition of a new class – the Paladin – and an increase to the level cap from 60 to 70. With the addition of the Paladin, players now have a choice of eight playable classes and will be able to choose between focusing on healing or tanking Paladin builds.

Also introduced in the expansion are Minsc and Boo, his “miniature giant space hamster”, as they track down the true nature of the four elemental cults responsible for the destruction and instability throughout the Forgotten Realms.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X ...

“Our team is thrilled to revisit one of the most iconic stories of Dungeons & Dragons with Neverwinter: Elemental Evil,” says Rob Overmeyer, executive producer of Neverwinter. “Aspiring to deliver our biggest expansion to-date, our team at Cryptic focused on introducing long-requested gameplay features as well as building more Dungeons & Dragons lore into our game. Introducing a new class, the level cap increase and Minsc & Boo into one expansion was quite a task, but an exciting one in order to continue to build a quality Dungeons & Dragons digital experience.”

Nathan Stewart, Brand Director of Dungeons & Dragons, went on to say

“D&D players have fought the forces of Elemental Evil before but there is a new twist with cult leaders like Aerisi, the elven prophetess ruling the Cult of the Howling Hatred, and the three other elemental prophets playing a deceptive role as the story is brought to life for Neverwinter players”, said Nathan Stewart, Brand Director of Dungeons & Dragons.

The expansion is part of Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment’s partnership with Wizards of the Coast and their goal to maintain a “one-to-one release cadence with official D&D storylines,” as the Cults of Elemental Evil will appear in the upcoming Princes of the Apocalypse tabletop release.
