After days of cryptic teasing on Twitter with the hashtag #BreakTheRules, Warner Bros. is finally preparing to leverage their partnership with LEGO to develop a toy-to-life game titled LEGO Dimensions. Rumors of the game first leaked out this morning when a listing has appeared on Toys ‘R’ Us, and a reddit user going by the name just2good first leaked the box art with a post on the LEGO subreddit.

Warner Bros. has since confirmed its existence with the press release and brand new trailer starring Joel McHale and the first three minifigures that come with the game.

The product listing on Toys ‘R’ Us has a bundle available for the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One. Each $99.99 bundle comes with the standard toys-to-life starter pieces – a pad to put the figures on, 3 figures (Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle), and the game itself. Since this is LEGO, afterall, it also comes with bricks to design your own Gateway that sits behind the portal.

The official product description on the Toys ‘R’ Us listing can be seen below.

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO® worlds, different characters from DC Comics™, Lord of the Rings™ and the LEGO® Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman™, Gandalf™ and Wyldstyle™ bravely jump into the vortex to rescue their friends and fight to save all of LEGO humanity.

Let your creativity be your guide as you build the LEGO Gateway to adventure, journeying through unexpected worlds and teaming-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with characters you never thought you could see in a LEGO game together, using vehicles and weapons you never thought possible. LEGO Bad Cop™ driving the DeLorean Time Machineâ¦why not?! The Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman™…yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.

This will follow in the wake of the massively successful Skylanders series, which has made more than $3 billion dollars since it first launched in 2011, and its main competitor Disney Infinity, which features characters from Disney’s own films as well as Marvel, and potentially more of their franchises in the future.

Similar to other toy-to-life games, LEGO Dimensions collectibles don’t stop at the figures. Level Packs, Team Packs, and Fun Packs will also be available to provide more in-game content such as “buildable characters, vehicles, tools, and gadgets.” All properties will be interchangeable with each other, according to a press release issued by Warner Bros.

Depending on which properties are actually licensed to be used in games, Warner Bros. has a huge stable of franchises to use in LEGO Dimensions. The first batch of properties available will be The LEGO Movie, DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Ninjago, and The Wizard of Oz. Warner Bros. also promises that more brands will be revealed at a later date. The following Packs will be available sometime this year, with more coming frequently in the future.

A small sample of packs available in 2015 include the Back to the Future Level Pack with a LEGO Marty McFly minifigure, a LEGO Ninjago Team Pack with Kai and Cole minifigures, three Ninjago Fun Packs with Jay, Nya and Zane minifigures, two DC Comics Fun Packs with Wonder Woman and Cyborg minifigures, three The Lord of the Rings Fun Packs with LEGO Gollum, LEGO Gimli and LEGO Legolas minifigures, four The LEGO Movie Fun packs with Emmet, Bad Cop, Benny and Unikitty characters, and a The Wizard of Oz Fun Pack with a LEGO Wicked Witch of the West minifigure.  Additional packs to round out the 2015 assortment will be announced in the months leading to launch.  Further waves of expansion packs will be released regularly following the launch of the game and into 2016.

LEGO Dimensions ships on September 27, 2015 for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Consoles.
