All too often in the Whoverse, there are moments in time and space that are fixed and despite the Doctor’s best efforts, cannot be changed without serious consequences, and even then it is a crapshoot. However, the Doctor Who grim reaper and executive producer, Steven Moffat, has revealed that a favorite recurring character from the series that was devastatingly killed off in Season 8 is now coming back from the dead! Season 9 will feature the glorious return of UNIT scientist and fan favorite Osgood!
Moffat teasingly released this statement on Osgood’s return:
Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning—but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time, though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”
After debuting in “The Day of the Doctor” as an assistant to Kate Stewart, Osgood returned in series 8 in “Death in Heaven” to help the Doctor thwart Missy’s devious plan to turn the human race into her personal Cybermen army. Missy, who turned out to be the regenerated Master, ended up tricking her captors, killing her guards and vaporizing Osgood in a heart-wrenching moment, Missy crushing Osgood’s signature glasses under her heel in finality of the moment.
Osgood reportedly will return in a two-part episode that has yet to be named. It will be written by Peter Harness and will also feature an alien shapeshifting species Osgood is all too familiar with – the Zygons. Series 9 is currently filming in Wales and is set to premier this fall.Source: Entertainment Weekly
