Cord Cutters Rejoice! Xbox One Over-The-Air TV Tuner Now Available

,

After announcing a partnership with Hauppauge to bring a digital TV tuner to U.S. and Canadian Xbox One users last month, the Hauppauge TV Tuner for Xbox One is now available. When combined with an antenna, the digital TV tuner allows Xbox One owners to watch broadcast network shows without requiring a cable subscription.

With the Xbox One’s growing lineup of TV-viewing options, adding basic cable channels to the mix makes it even more enticing for Xbox One owners looking to sever ties with their cable company – also known as cord cutting. With apps like HBO Go, Netflix, ESPN, Sling TV, and more currently available, the need for a cable subscription is quickly disappearing.

Over-the-air (OTA) TV on the Xbox One is also integrated into Xbox’s OneGuide app, and users will also be able to stream OTA TV from their Xbox One to Windows 10 devices or the SmartGlass app on Windows Phone, Android, and iOS – even when someone else is playing a game on the Xbox One.

The Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner for Xbox One can be purchased for $59.99 from Microsoft stores and Amazon, and you can also pick up an OTA TV bundle from microsoftstore.com which includes the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner and a Mohu Leaf 50 antenna.

If you haven’t severed ties with your cable company yet, are you more inclined to now that the Xbox One supports OTA TV? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
