I’d not heard of Red Nose Day before, and with good reason, the inaugural event was only yesterday, May 21st, 2015. The overall gist is simply to raise money to help children living in poverty. The main way to do so, as evidenced by the name “Red Nose Day,” is by making people laugh and generally having a good time. Fundraisers were encouraged, and a 3 hour show on NBC wrapped up the day’s festivities. From RedNoseDay.org:
Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making people laugh. The inaugural Red Nose Day will be held in the US on May 21st, 2015. People across the country will come together to have fun and raise funds and awareness. The day’s events will culminate in a three-hour entertainment TV special on NBC featuring the country’s favorite comedians, musicians and Hollywood stars—it’s a show not to be missed!
Admittedly, I didn’t see the show, but quickly came across the video below. Coldplay, the British rock band, decided that their contribution would be Game of Thrones: The Musical. What starts as a horrible idea, attended only by a skeptical Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon) and an overly excited Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton), quickly turns with the arrival of Kit Harington (Jon Snow). Coldplay singer Chris Martin enthusiastically greets Jon Snow, and when corrected that his name is Kit reacts by enthusiastically welcoming Kit Snow.
They eventually end up with quite the ensemble. There were men of the Night’s Watch, Wildlings, Boltons, dead kings, dead wargs, and several other big surprises that I won’t ruin here. If nothing else, you’ll have to watch the reaction when Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek) enters the studio and sees Rheon standing there. If you’re not familiar with the books/tv show, suffice to say that their characters have a…complicated past.

If the rest of Red Nose Day is as well thought out and entertaining, I’ll definitely have to pay more attention next year!
