Bethesda Starts Countdown: Fallout 4 Rumored To Be Announced

In less than 18 hours it appears that Bethesda is going to make an announcement about Fallout 4. A cryptic countdown can be seen on their official webpage with no other details, but Kotaku is reporting that a source close to the company has confirmed that a Fallout 4 announcement is indeed what the clock countdown is leading up to.

Originally created by Interplay Entertainment (Baldur’s Gate, Descent, Wasteland), and currently produced by Bethesda Softworks (The Elder Scrolls, Rage, Dishonored) the Fallout series has been arguably one of the most popular franchises for its studio, despite having changed hands throughout the course of its long history. Fallout 3, the most popular game of the series, and the last installment, was launched almost 7 years ago in October of 2008. The futuristic post-apocalyptic series has had some rough patches with Interplay and Bethesda taking to legal action to settle IP issues, fans have not been deterred by the legalese and have been waiting with bated breath for the newest chapter for Fallout.

That legal action turned out to be the demise of the Fallout Massively Multiplayer Online game, which was going to be a collaboration between Bethesda and Black Isle Studios as the intended follow up to Fallout 3. It is unlikely the announcement has anything to do with the MMO being revived as the project, dubbed Project V13, has since been transformed into the Black Isle Mayan Apocalypse Replacement Program, a crowd-funded project for Black Isle to create a new RPG of their own.

Keep an eye on the countdown, which will end at 2pm EST tomorrow, and stay tuned for more updates on what Bethesda has in store for us!
