Worlds I’d Like to See in Kingdom Hearts 3

Sony’s E3 conference this year stole the show after dropping one blockbuster release after another, leaving those in attendance dumbfounded and those watching at home viciously throwing money at their computer screens. Amidst all the chaos however, Square Enix managed to sneak in a short gameplay trailer of the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3, whose release date changes more often than doomsday itself.

As the third installment seems to draw nearer, we can only speculate as to what it actually has to offer. And what better place to start than the unvisited worlds of the Disney universe? Here are 5 worlds that I think Sora, Donald and Goofy need to make a pit stop to:

1. Robin Hood

Robin-Hood

It’s pretty strange that a Disney classic like Robin Hood has yet to make its way to the franchise, considering the fact it’s been over 40 years since the film’s release. Along with his sword-swinging ways, the fox that “steals from the rich to give to the poor” seems like a perfect sidekick to Sora’s do-gooder attitude. The Sherwood Forest could definitely play home to plenty of jolly anthropomorphic animal-folk, as well as some pesky heartless. It’s about time that Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham get thwarted in gorgeous high definition.

2. Big Hero 6

Hiro-and-Baymax

If Kingdom Hearts was the brainchild of mashing Japan’s Final Fantasy series and American Disney films together, it’s only a matter of time until they visit San Fransokyo, the conveniently named city where Big Hero 6 takes place. The marshmallow-faced menace, Baymax, has taken the world by storm over the past year and has shown that he’s more than just a talking pillow. Not to the mention that with a bit of inventive tinkering from Hiro Hamada, Sora and friends could gain the crucial weapon upgrades they desperately need as they make their way towards Xehanort.

3. Monsters, Inc.

Monsters-Inc
When a place has that many doors it seems like a keyblade could ‘fit’ right in. Get it? Because it’s a key?! …Never mind.

Tetsuya Nomura has heavily considered adapting a Pixar film into the Kingdom Hearts universe, and now seems like as good a time as any to do so. All jokes aside, the concept of “doors that transport you to different places” fits like a Mickey Mouse-shaped glove. Even though Monsters, Inc. is often overshadowed by the likes of Toy Story and Finding Nemo, adding Sulley and Mike Wazowski instead might end up being the better thematic choice. With that type of open-world experience, the sheer variety of places explored within the Scare Floor could be far more diverse than any other world to date.

4. Frozen

Elsa-Frozen
“Do you wanna kill some heartless?” “GO AWAY, SORA.”

It seems inevitable that the world’s highest-grossing animated film of all-time would be put in consideration for the series. In fact, I’m willing to bet good money that it’s guaranteed Frozen will make its way into the franchise, even if it isn’t Kingdom Hearts 3. Arendelle is pretty much a shoo-in as a standout setting, being a once vibrant kingdom now stuck in an eternal winter. Just imagining Elsa’s Ice Palace alone being rendered through the Unreal Engine 4 gives me ‘chills’. Ha, nailed it!

Elsa’s character is pretty versatile since she can be portrayed as a pseudo-villain early in the story, and later on as an ally as the plot unravels. Having an actual mage who is capable of summoning a colossal ice monstrosity would be a lot more helpful than having Donald Duck pop another potion while you’re at max health.

5. Star Wars

The-Force-Awakens
The (death)stars have aligned for Sora to finally wield a lightsaber. Need I say more?

This is honestly the only thing that I need to become a reality. I’d sacrifice all 101 Dalmatians just for this to happen. Square Enix not putting the Star Wars universe in Kingdom Hearts 3 is like ordering a pizza without cheese; you’ve made a huge mistake.

Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in October of 2012, the buzz for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens has caused a worldwide frenzy and rightfully so. This aforementioned hype train has made it all the way to Kingdom Hearts fans with the prospect of being able to fight alongside the likes Chewbacca, Han Solo, and anyone but Jar Jar Binks. From Tatooine to Endor, Coruscant and Hoth, I can’t begin to explain why this is such a brilliant idea. The potential combination of the Galactic Republic and Organization XIII is more than I can possibly fathom as a human being. It’s a win-win situation on both sides, where they can’t possibly go wrong… Okay, well maybe podracing.
