The Flash Breaking News! – Michael Ironside Cast As Captain Cold’s Father

|

The Rogues Gallery grew one size today as veteran actor Michael Ironside has been cast as Leonard (Captain Cold) and Lisa (Golden Glider) Snart’s father Lewis.

According to the Hollywood Reported Lewis Snart is as cold-blooded and ruthless as his offspring, if not more so considering he is returning to Central City after being released from prison with a plan that will put both of his children in danger.

Now, I’m prone to delving into the comics to shed a little light on characters that make their way to the small screen (and sometimes the big screen), but in this case there isn’t much I can tell you other than father Snart was abusive to the point that Leonard spent a good deal of time with his grandfather. After his grandfather passed away Leonard stayed away from home by entering into the world of crime by joining a gang of thieves.

Ironside will guest-star initially in the third episode of season two, entitled “Family of Rogues” along with his children.

Considering the state of things in the Flash-verse, and the rumors that there are going to be a lot of new heroes and villains introduced in season two (not to mention the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow spinoff) this could just be the tip of the iceberg for guest appearances. And since there is very little in the existing mythos they pretty much have carte blanche with regard to Papa Snart’s story line.

Ironside has appeared in a plethora of films and television shows, including Top Gun, Starship Troopers and Total Recall (for which I loves his character). And this isn’t his first time in the comic world either, voicing characters in animated versions of Batman, Superman, Justice League, as well as Wolverine and the X-Men.

And I for one look forward to it and hope he sticks around a while.
