Flash, Arrow, & Legends Announcement Round-up!

|

It’s been another information and announcement filled week for the DC/WB family of shows including Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. Instead of doing a post when each announcement hits the web, I thought I’d collect them all and do one biggie on Fridays. That way you, the reader, don’t have to spend your day hunting the web for news, I will.

Because I apparently have nothing better to do ::wink wink::

Anyway, the week started out with the announcement that Legends of Tomorrow would indeed have Hawkman (a.k.a. Carter Hall) in it at some point and one Falk Hentschel had been cast in the role. For those that don’t know who Hawkman is, in the comics universe there are several origin stories for Hawkman, including one where he is an alien from the planet of Thanagar.

For this particular incarnation (the Carter Hall version) he is the latest reincarnation of an Egyptian Prince who is fated to reincarnate throughout time. Whether or not that same origin will be present in the show is yet to be seen. In the comics, Carter and his wife have a son that goes on to become one version of Dr. Fate, a fairly well know character and a great way to ultimately introduce that character to the TV world. Hentschel himself has appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Reckless and will make his appearance on the Flash/Arrow cross-over episode this December.

Sticking with Legends for a moment, the Big Bad ™ of the series, Vandal Savage, has been cast. Casper Crump will be leading the charge against the heroes and villains that team up to take him down. And just based on looks alone it’s a perfect casting. Savage is supposedly immortal, being a Cro-Magnon from 50,000 BC who gained super intelligence and immortality after being exposed to the radiation of a meteorite that fell to Earth. Crump is probably new to American audiences having appeared mostly in Danish television. He is appearing in the Tarzan adaptation in 2016.

Finally; Flash. Literally. Keiynan Lonsdale, who recently appeared in the Divergent movies has been cast as Wally West. Wally is one incarnation of the Flash himself (the third in the comics universe) and is the nephew of Iris West (see the connection here). In the comics he started as Kid Flash after visiting Barry Allen and having the accident that caused Barry to become the Flash repeat itself giving Wally the same powers. How that will tie into the show as it stands I don’t know but the possibilities, especially if they stick to his origin story, could have huge ramifications.

Think about it, How could the accident repeat itself unless the reactor at Star Labs fired off again. Which it almost (kind of) did at the end of Season 1! So… maybe Wally was trying to visit Barry when the final showdown between Flash and Reverse-Flash was taking place and the build up of energy to let Barry go back in time recreates the accident while Wally is in Barry’s office/lab.

I’m just saying 😉
