Tidal To Livestream “Made In America” Music Festival

|

Jay Z has been hard at work all year to garner attention for his new music service Tidal, and his annual music festival gives him such an opportunity. The Made In America Festival will be available for subscribers and non-members alike to view the concert in its entirety for free.

“Made In America” is a two-day festival that kicks off in Philadelphia on September 5 to celebrate Labor Day weekend. There will be three stages and will feature some of the top artists in Rap, R&B, Electronic Dance Music and Alternative Rock.

Beyonce will headline on Saturday and The Weeknd will headline on Sunday. Other artists that will be featured are Modest Mouse, Big Sean, Santigold, and many more.

Tidal originally launched late in 2014, but didn’t gain much notoriety from the general public until the service’s subsequent relaunch in March 2015, backed by a star-studded press conference featuring major players in the music industry such as Daft Punk, Nicki Minaj and Jack White. While it doesn’t offer a free subscription option, it is offering the concert stream completely free of charge.

Jay Z and company have been pushing since the relaunch to make Tidal into a legitimate competitor to Spotify, saying that their service is better for the artists and the music industry as a whole. Though they have been working towards competition, the app has had it’s ups and downs.

The $20 per month asking price for the lossless audio that that served as a major selling point and lack of a free, ad-supported option didn’t serve well when stacking up to Spotify, and neither has comments from certain artists expressing concerns about Tidal.

Despite spurts of negative exposure, Tidal is still a relatively new service and is still changing and responding to customer concerns. Offering the Made In America Festival for free figures to only bolster the app’s popularity.
