The fan favourite indie game from yesteryear, Castle Crashers, is getting a remastered released for the Xbox One. First released seven years ago on the Xbox 360, the game will “harness that new technology” and be re-released as Castle Crashers Remastered.

Some of the new features include:

  • New multiplayer mini-game called Back Off Barbarian
  • Five times larger texture sizes than the original!
  • Twice the framerate of the original! (60 frames per second)
  • Performance updates, gameplay tweaks
  • Online multiplayer performance updates
  • Ability to find games easier and quicker online

If you previously owned Castle Crashers on the Xbox 360, you’ll be able to download the remastered version for free until September 20th.

Howeverif you’ve previously owned Castle Crashers on Xbox 360, you shall receive our Thank-You-For-Saving-Our-Lives-That-One-Time special price of FREE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 20th with current Xbox Live Gold membership. Be sure to scoop it up early if you want to take advantage of that awesomeness. $0.00 for our game feels like a pretty good deal to me!!!!!

If after the 20th you didn’t, you can still snag it for $5.00 if you own the previous gen version. The Behemoth also announced that if you don’t want to pick up the remastered version (which I can’t see why not if you own the previous version and it’s free until the 20th), the original Castle Crashers will be joining the Xbox One Backward Compatibility list when it launches in the fall. They are quick to point out that this is the OG (original game) and will not feature any of the new features included in the remastered version.
