Age Of Mythology And Age of Empires II Expansions Announced

Age of Mythology, the once popular mythology-based real-time strategy video game originally developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios, is set to receive its first update in 12 years.

To give you an idea of how much has changed since then: Avril Lavigne had just crooned about a sk8er boi, Britney Spears had no kids, ’emo’ was new to the American lexicon, MySpace pages ran rampant, everyone had razor scooters, and people were just breaking in their PS2s.

This new expansion, “Tale of the Dragon,” will focus on Chinese mythology. In the image released by the developers we can see three gods; speculated to be Shennong, Fuxi and Nüwa. These gods, primarily known for agriculture, law, and creation may give a hint to the Chinese expansion’s play style which could be less brutish and more strategic.

Skybox and Forgotten Empires (no pun intended) will be creating the expansion for the Extended Edition of the game which we will be able to get our first look at on October 2nd on their live stream.

This news comes on the coattails of another surprising expansion announcement to Age of Empires 2 HD, called “African Kingdoms” as displayed in this very odd trailer:
