Rebellion’s Sniper Elite, based on World War II campaigns and featuring the gritty X-ray kill cam, is celebrating the 10th birthday of the series. It was also announced that over 10 million copies have been sold. The independent UK developer took to YouTube to thank their fans, and will be hosting an AMA on Twitch later today at 6pm UK/1pm ET.

The Sniper Elite franchise has spawned three games, as well as the “Nazi Zombie Army” spin-offs which culminated in the release of Zombie Army Trilogy earlier this year.

“Whether you’ve bought one or whether you’ve bought all of our SNIPER ELITE products, thank you very much for supporting indie development in the UK,” said Kingsley. “It’s been a pleasure to deliver great games for you and hopefully we’ll go on to do more in the future.”

I was first introduced to Sniper Elite through YouTuber Robbaz, and being the mature adult I am I just had to try it after watching the video below. Crassness aside, it’s a fun game which tests your stealth skills and lets you complete missions by finding the best places to set up shop and camp your enemies until you’ve killed every single last one of them.

Rebellion is planning a month of special content and deals including new videos, live streams, giveaways, and more to commemorate 10 years and 10 million sales of Sniper Elite. The sale begins today on Steam, and will also be running across platforms throughout the month. The Sniper Elite Trilogy is currently 81% off on Steam, and savings are also being extended to the PlayStation Store in Europe, with savings to be found on the PS4 editions of Sniper Elite 3 and Sniper Elite 3: Ultimate Edition.

Have you played any of the Sniper Elite games? Let us know which ones and what you thought about them in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
