No stranger to the world of comics, Rosario Dawson has been cast to be the voice of Barbara Gordon, also known as Batgirl in the upcoming Warner Bros. movie LEGO Batman, which is a spin-off to last year’s mega hit The LEGO Movie. Dawson joins Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, and Michael Cera behind the microphone for the film that is scheduled to be released February 10, 2017.
Chris McKay, who was the animation supervisor for The Lego Movie, will be directing LEGO Batman with Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter author, Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script. Also returning from 2014’s LEGO based action-comedy are the producers Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
As for the cast of LEGO Batman, Arnette will reprise his role as the Dark Knight, with his ultra brooding and slightly delusional version of Bruce Wayne that was so popular in last years film. In addition to the Rosario Dawson’s Batgirl, the boy wonder Robin is also represented in the Bat family with the voice of Michael Cera. Rounding out the currently known cast of characters is perhaps the most iconic villain in comic book history, The Joker, who will be portrayed as Zach Galifianakis.
Being an avid fan of comics, Dawson’s history with comic book based movies and TV shows runs deep, with her role as the Night Nurse Claire Temple in Marvel’s Daredevil TV series, which she will reprise in the next round of Netflix shows, as well as Gail in both of Frank Miller’s Sin City films.
Dawson has lent her voice to DC characters in the past, as she’s voiced Artemis in 2009’s animated Wonder Woman, and Wonder Woman in this year’s Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.
