New Xbox One Experience, Xbox One Backward Compatibility Rolling Out

Life is about to get a bit more confusing for Xbox One owners across the globe as the New Xbox One Experience (NXOE), a complete overhaul to the Xbox One dashboard, has started rolling out. Scheduled to start at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT today, the update also introduces Xbox Backward Compatibility which will allow gamers to play select Xbox 360 Games on the Xbox One. Backward Compatibility will go live for all Xbox One consoles with or without the NXOE dashboard after 3:01pm ET/12:01pm (noon) PT today.

Not everyone will get the rollout at the same time, so be patient as it depends on your time zone and Xbox One settings. If you have Instant-on power mode, your Xbox One will update in the background. Consoles in Connected Standby mode will be updated at various times throughout the day. If you are using the Xbox One Energy-saving mode, you’ll have to initiate the update process by going to Settings >System and checking if an update is available. If it is, choose “Update Now” to start the download and update.

To take advantage of the Backward Compatibility and start playing your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One after the program goes live today, refresh your Game Collection to see your pre-purchased, digital Xbox 360 titles from the Backward Compatible title list in your ready to install queue or simply insert the disc for a supported Xbox 360 title and download the game to start playing it on Xbox One.

The NXOE features a new Xbox One home that makes it faster to access recently used games and apps, lets you access top tasks with just one button press, introduces a new Community section, a revamped OneGuide, and a new and improved Store.

In case you haven’t heard about the NXOE or seen the interface yet, you might want to take a peak at this walkthrough of the new guide as it is drastically different than the existing dashboard.

In case you’re interested, here’s an interview with Mike Ybarra as well which goes over some of the new features as well and compares the new dashboard with the old dashboard.

Be sure to check the list of known issues as some are temporary and will resolve themselves during and shortly after the installation process.

If you haven’t received or updated your Xbox One, you’ll be prompted on November 23rd for the mandatory update.
