***UPDATE: What’s this? A wild giveaway has appeared? Keep reading for more info!***

If you’re anything like me, you tend to get sick of a lot of the holiday music you hear around this time of year. I can handle most of the classics, but most of what you’ll hear these days are horrible pop re-makes and badly auto-tuned performances by “artists” that maybe shouldn’t be famous in the first place. What if you’re looking for some new geeky holiday music that speaks to the gamer in you? Sounds like you need Robby Duguay’s 12GB of Christmas Vol. III in your life.

Robby Duguay has taken sounds and effects from the games that we all love and turned them into the Christmas carols we know and *insert your feelings for Christmas music here*. Everything from the chiptunes found on the original NES to melodies and music from the N64 and PlayStation. Even the track titles are playful combinations of the original song title and the name of the games that inspired them. You might be saying to yourself, “If this is Vol. III, surely there must be a Vol. I and II.” You’d be correct. You can purchase all three volumes, in addition to Robby Duguay’s other releases on Bandcamp at Robby’s Bandcamp page.

To give you an idea of the type of music you’ll be getting, here’s a video for “Angels We Have Heard in Town” from Volume 1

The complete track list for 12GB of Christmas Vol. III is below:

  1. “NEScracker March” 02:02
  2. “Legend of Bethlehem” 02:23
  3. “Joyful Joyful Overworld” 02:07
  4. “Angels from the Miracle World” 01:48
  5. “Ding Dong Merrily on Adventure” 01:57
  6. “Handel Zone” 03:27
  7. “Go Tell it on the Mana” 02:46
  8. “I Heard the Bells on Corneria” 02:18
  9. “Silent City” 02:21
  10. “Holly and Ivy Underwater” 03:12
  11. “Fall on your Knees” 04:22
  12. “Ephemeral Manger” 03:13

Honestly, “NESCracker March” got me. I defy you to load up that track and not at least crack a smirk while it’s playing. You can purchase 12GB of Christmas Vol. III on Bandcamp for a minimum suggested donation of $5CAD (right around $3.60US at the moment). If you like what you hear, you can buy Robby Duguay’s entire Bandcamp catalog, including all three volumes of 12GB of Christmas and four other albums for a minimum suggested donation of $16.50CAD (right around $12US), which is a 50% discount.

I have my doubts that this album is actually 12GB, but otherwise I can’t think of any reason not to at least check it out! Maybe you’ll find your new favorite geeky holiday music to entertain, and yet still confuse, your relatives.
